SALTWATER EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE GUIDE

Even the most expensive and high-performance fishing gear needs to be maintained properly every day when used in salt water. Compliance with this maintenance guide will allow you to keep your equipment in good condition and efficient

BEWARE OF SALT WATER

Saline water has a corrosive reaction on several materials; metals and alloys, aluminum, plastics, composites, graphites and paints. Some are more resistant than others but, over time, they always end up being damaged by salt water, and thus your fishing gear degrades. To ensure the longevity of your equipment, it is important to carefully follow the maintenance steps after each day of fishing.

STEP 1

Rinse your rod and reel in cold water (without immersion).

STEP 2

Clean your fishing rod and reel with a damp cloth to remove dust, sand and dried salt. To clean effectively, disassemble your reel from the fishing rod, then, the spool from the reel. Pay particular attention to the guides and the reel seat.

STEP 3

Rinse the spool with running water to make sure you remove all the salt from your line. For long-term maintenance, it is advisable to remove all the line from the spool before storing your reel until the next outing.

STEP 4

Make sure that the spool axle and its gear are always covered with a thin layer of grease or oil. Same thing for the pivot and the axis (roller) of the handle. The reel wire guide and bearings should receive a drop of oil from time to time to ensure they are protected from corrosion.

Salt water damage is not covered by Green Trail’s after-sales warranty

As it is the responsibility of each fisherman to maintain his equipment properly, Green Trail cannot offer any after-sales warranty on its products concerning damage caused by salt water (oxidation, rust, abrasion, discoloration, etc.). The life of well-maintained equipment used in salt water will be similar to that of equipment used in fresh water.
